Holding Fire and Water

The sunshine is so glorious right now! It’s heavenly. I feel both incredibly moved by joy, and paralysed by disbelief of the horrors happening in Palestine right now. How do we hold good and evil in the same hand?

I don’t think I’ve got the answers, but Ecclesiastes 3 comes to mind. You might know the famous bit, “there is a time for everything..”, but the rest of the passage is interesting too. The conclusion? “Be happy and do good.” Strangely and profoundly simple.

I think there is a grace in allowing moments of joy to stand alone, and not snatching your happiness away out of guilt. Delight is a form of worship in it’s own right, but you also need the strength that comes from that joy to give generously and fight for justice when you can.

If we act with love at the centre - for others, but also for ourselves - there is only so wrong we can go.

See you on Sunday!

Love,
Andy
